Q: How much does it cost to go on a Top of the South Hiking Tour?

A: Top of the South Hiking Tours prices may vary as sometimes seasonal variations and special offers do apply. Our guided walks start at $70.00 per person. Please let us know how we can cater to your individual or group, corporate or leisure requirements.

Q: How long are the walks?
A: Top of the South Hiking Tours range in duration up to approximately 6 hours for a day trip and up to 3 days for overnighters. This includes travelling time and comfort and lunch breaks.

Q: What should I wear and bring with me?
A: Depending on the weather of course you may like to wear and bring:
  • Shorts and a tee shirt or sweatshirt.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Sunhat and sun lotion.
  • Your own personal water bottle.
  • Always bring a warm jacket in case the weather turns bad. As the weather in New Zealand can change rapidly, especially in the mountains.
  • Raincoat.
  • Sensible sturdy footwear or tramping boots. Preferably not sneakers or running shoes, boots are best.

Q: How difficult is hiking and what level of fitness do I need?
A: If you have a reasonable fitness level, i.e. can walk up a 30-degree hill without too much difficulty, then you will feel comfortable. We wander along at a relaxed pace without a deadline or pressure to compete. If you are in doubt then please do feel free to email Kathy to discuss your requirements.

Q: How experienced is our guide?
A: Kathy has been tramping for the last 20 years and has accumulated extensive practical knowledge of the areas and what to do in virtually every scenario. She is a member of Nelson Search and Rescue, has a first aid certificate, has completed an Outdoor Pursuits Course, which involved: hiking, sea kayaking, mountain rescue, abseiling, map and compass navigation, rafting, fitness training, sailing, cave exploring, bushcraft, orienteering and snow caving.

Q: What about First Aid?
A: Guides carry an extensive first aid kit on all walks and have first aid training.

Q: What if the walk is cancelled due to bad weather?
A: If the walk is cancelled due to bad weather and you have prepaid, we will refund your payment in full.

Q: What cancellation notice do you require?
A: A 25% cancellation fee applies if you advise more than 14 days in advance. Otherwise no refund will be made unless a valid medical certificate is provided. No refund on any portion of a guided package can be made after departure of the trip.If you need to cancel your booking for any other reason we would appreciate as much notice as you can give, 7 days minimum where possible. . Payment: 25% deposit is required to confirm a booking. Payment in full is due 30 days before departure.
